Ansel Easton Adams (February 20, 1902 – April 22, 1984) is perhaps the most well-known national park photographer of all time. His work is still revered today and his images continue to command record fees at auctions.
Devils Postpile National Monument in California's Sierra Nevada Mountains showcases the remarkable basalt columns of the Devil's Postpile, formed by volcanic activity. Visitors can hike, witness Rainbow Falls, and explore the surrounding pristine wilderness. In 1968, his images were featured on a series of posters created by the Department of the Interior and National Park Service.
One of the most interesting things about these posters is the logo. The intertwined triangles and 3 dots served as the official logo of the National Park Service from 1966-1969, although it was not popular with visitors and the arrowhead returned.
As this poster hasn’t been in print for over 55 years, we had to go back to the drawing board and recreate them from scratch. We even created several that were not part of the original run using some of Ansel Adam’s public domain photographs of the national parks.
